It works like this: Portlanders tell us what they want to see, then they vote from among those suggestions. Each month, the winner of that vote goes up for screening, and if 100 folks spring for tickets, the screening is on! We don’t collect payments or issue tickets until the tipping point is reached. If we don’t hit the tip, we don’t collect funds, and the screening is off.
If you’ve been to a Boise Classic Movies screening, you know how much fun this is going to be in Portland. The Hollywood is already a huge supporter of its community, hosting local film festivals and promoting local filmmakers’ projects.
It’s a GORGEOUS theatre, build in 1926 (just months before the Egyptian in Boise). They’ve restored the theatre, improved the sound and projection to meet current standards, and have really partnered with the community to make it a building Portlanders can be proud of.
I can’t wait to see what folks will do with This is YOUR Theatre. Right now the suggestion form is open, ready to receive the list of movies that’ll go up for vote starting next week. Opening night is April 5 (tipping point willing), and I’ll be jumping over the Blues and through the Gorge to be there, whatever the show.
What do you want to see at the Hollywood Theatre (rumor has it, it belongs to you now)?
